Four Big Myths about Steam Car Wash

Steam car wash is a rather new concept method in the car wash industry, which has been welcomed in many parts of the world thanks to its eco-friendliness and effectiveness.

Myth # 1: Steam car wash is just a gimmick?

NO! Steam has been used in the cleaning industry for decades thanks to its efficient cleaning and sterilizing power. For example, steam is a well-known method of carpet and upholstery cleaning. Steam readily dissolves deposits on polluted surface. The Steamer is a commercial and industrial grade machine that can be used for car wash and other general cleaning purposes. An effective steam car wash machine must have sufficient yet safe level of steam pressure, steam temperature, and water flow rate (water consumption rate).

Myth # 2: Steam car wash scratches car surface?

NO! Steam wash will not scratch your car if steam wash is applied correctly. Car wash scratches are often caused by rubbing tiny particles of dirt, sand, and rust against the car surface without removing them properly first. The Steamer will effectively remove these tiny particles by applying the just right amount of heat, pressure, and water. We recommend only using microfiber mops and towels when drying and polishing. Many car owners have had unpleasant experience of having their car scratched from a tunnel wash or even from using a self-service car wash facility. Steam (gas) is much gentler than high pressure water jet (liquid), and there is no object such as brush in direct contact with the car surface except when mops or towels are used with a minimal force. Overall, steam car wash is much more “scratch-proof” than conventional car wash methods.

Myth # 3: Steam car wash damages paint work?

NO! Paints made for automobiles are highly weather resistant and supposed to endure extreme cold and heat. Steam is a form of gas. The very second steam is exposed to the atmosphere, the temperature of steam drops exponentially. In general, the temperature of the steam on the washing surface is well below 100°C (212°F), but the temperature largely depends on the distance between the steam gun’s nozzle tip and the surface (See the chart below). The Steamer’s steam pressure is preset at 8 bar (116 psi). This is a relatively low pressure rate, but powerful and sufficient enough to wash various surfaces safely and efficiently.

Myth # 4: Steam machines are dangerous to operate?

NO! It is true that steam generating machines must endure high pressure and high temperature. The same goes for high pressure washers which have been used for various car wash applications up until now. Thus, such machines should be manufactured by engineers with expertise in the high pressure and temperature boiler system. The Steamer was designed with users’ safety in mind. The Steamer is programmed with automated self-monitoring system. It has multi-stage safety features to ensure the machine operates only within safe pressure and temperature ranges. The Steamer’s boiler also endures the pressure at up to 4.5 times of the operating pressure rate.

Washing Power

When it comes to steam wash machines, steam pressure and water flow (consumption) rate determine the machines's washing power (F). The Steamer’s water flow rate is easily adjustable by using the moisture control valve. Per each gun, the water flow rate ranges from 500cc to 1500cc per minute (0.13~0.39 gpm) depending on model and the moisture control valve setting. The Steamer’s steam pressure is preset at 8 bar (116 psi) [Max.10 bar ( 145 psi)].
